Customs seizes nearly 700g of gold bars at Mangalore airport

Passenger arrested; investigations under progress

Custom officials at Mangalore International Airport have seized nearly 700 grams of gold, worth more than Rs. 21 lakh, from a passenger who landed here on Saturday morning. According to Commissioner of Customs, D. Purushotham, the gold was in form of six gold bars, each weighing 10 tolas (each tola is 11.66 grams) that was concealed in a carton by Mohammed Noufal Naimarmoola Hassainar, a resident of Muttathody in Kasaragod district.

Mr. Hassainar arrived at the Airport at 7.45 a.m. by an Air India Express flight from Dubai. The passenger has been arrested, and investigations are under progress.

Burglary at school

Burglars broke into a school and made good with various items at Mundkur village coming under the Karkala Rural Police Station limits. According to the police, they broke into the office of the Aided Higher Primary School at Mundkur between 4.30 p.m. on January 24 and 10 a.m. on January 25 and took with them a refrigerator, two computers, a television set, a DVD player and two LPG cylinders.

The value of all these items put together is estimated at Rs. 82,000.
