Congress ends padayatra

The three-day padayatra of the Congress, led by the former Minister B. Ramanath Rai from Nelyadi to BC Road on National Highway 75 ended on Wednesday with the Congress leader claiming that the party had thus highlighted the “failures” of Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, Dakshina Kannada.

The party launched the padayatra at Nelyadi on January 14 to prevail upon the Union government to resume the highway widening and upgrading works which have come to a standstill between Adda Hole and BC Road.

Addressing a gathering at BC Road at the valedictory function on Wednesday, Mr. Rai said that “Mr. Kateel is a self-declared No 1 Member of Parliament.” The former Minister said that those who have been elected to Parliament from the erstwhile Mangaluru Parliamentary Constituency from the Congress were the “real No 1 Members of Parliament”.

Mr. Rai said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is only promoting the corporate sector.

Minister for Urban Development and district in-charge U.T. Khader said that the coalition government in the State is stable.

U.B. Venkatesh and Savita Ramesh, general secretaries, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, spoke.
