Congress denies charge

Vice-president of Dakshina Kannada Congress Committee Sadashiva Ullal said on Friday that the party has issued ticket to its candidates to contest the November 12 elections to the Mangaluru City Corporation council by following social justice.

In a statement here, he said that some persons by calling a press conference have tried to create confusion in the name of senior leaders of the party. They spoke on behalf of those who have been denied party ticket.

Their allegation that ticket have not been issued to the followers of senior party leader B. Janardhan Poojary is not true. Those who have been fielded in all the 60 wards are fans of Mr. Poojary.

The party has issued ticket to those candidates who have a chance of winning the elections.

Some persons are trying to tarnish the image of Mr. Poojary. The District Congress Committee has been functioning under the guidance of Mr. Poojary, he said.

The statement said that the former Mayor Purandaradasa Kuloor has not been issued ticket as the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has received a compliant about a criminal case being registered against him.

Instead, ticket for the Derebail North Ward No 17 has been issued to Mallikarjuna who is the grandson of the former Deputy Mayor late Padakannaya who was a fan of Mr. Poojary.

The statement said that the party will never sideline the recommendations made by Mr. Poojary.
