Colourful umbrella expo in Sunday’s rain fest

The Rain festival at Dr. Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisargadhama on Sunday (June 14) will have many attractions including an exhibition of traditional and modern umbrellas, according to Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, he said that there would be a competition on making art on umbrellas and decorating them. The first three most attractive umbrellas would get prize money of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 in the order. There would also be sale of umbrellas.

The Executive Director of the Nisargadhama, S.A. Prabhakara Sharma said that there would be an exhibition of photographs on ‘Rain’. Those willing to exhibit them, should send the photographs to his office on or before June 13.

Entry for the festival would be free. The objective is to attract more tourists to the Nisargadhama and create awareness on the importance of Nature and its conservation.

Cultural programmes, food festival and rural games would be held, he said.
