Colour coding for autos on in Udupi

Superintendent of Police Laxman B. Nimbargi has said that the colour coding scheme for autorickshaws has been taken up in the city. Speaking to presspersons during the phone-in programme held at the District Police Office, Mr. Nimbargi said that the city has been divided into two zones. Zone 1 comprised the city, while Zone 2 comprised the suburban areas. There were different colour codes for autorickshaws in the city and those in suburban areas.

Already, 50 autorickshaws had obtained their colour codes painted. About 20 autorickshaws were being painted daily under the supervision of the Regional Transport Office. This would reduce the conflict between autorickshaw operators in the city and those in the suburban areas, he said.

When a caller sought signal lights on Karavali Junction-Manipal Road, Mr. Nimbargi said that this stretch was now part of the National Highway 169A and road widening was on. Once widening was completed, signal lights would be installed, he said.
