Coast Guard evacuates injured crew of vessel passing through NMPT

Early on Friday, the Indian Coast Guard evacuated an injured crew member of a vessel passing through New Mangalore Port (NMPT).

According to an official press release, Sonu Soni, 30, of MV Vishva Prena injured his neck while lashing the crane hook.

The vessel was on its way to Kochi and had been cast off from New Mangalore Port.

The release said Indian Coast Guard DHQ 3 coordinated with the shipping vessel’s agent in evacuating the injured crew member.

The vessel was asked to head closer to the port from where the injured crew member was evacuated.

He is safe and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru, the release said.
