The tar road between St. Agnes Circle and Mallikatta Junction, and from Kadri Junction to Kamadhenu Gas Agency on Nanthoor Road will be upgraded as four-lane concrete road soon.
J.R. Lobo, MLA of Mangaluru City South, performed the ‘guddali pooja’ (ground breaking ceremony) for the two road works on Monday.
Speaking to presspersons on the occasion, he said that both the works would be over in two months from now.
The 255 metre-long road between St. Agnes Circle and Mallikatta Junction would up upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.40 crore and the upgrading of the stretch from Kadri Junction to Kamadhenu Gas Agency (240 m) would cost Rs. 1.42 crore. Both the roads would be 15 metres wide, including a one metre-wide median.
There would be drains of 1.50 m width on both the sides. The two works would be taken up from funds allotted to the Mangaluru City Corporation from the State Finance Commission for 2013-14.
He said that the tar road between Kamadhenu Gas Agency and Nanthoor Junction, to a length of 360 m, would also be converted to concrete road at an estimated cost of Rs. 2.85 crore. This would be taken up after a few days from funds under the Chief Minister’s special grant to city corporations.
Later, Mr. Lobo performed guddali pooja for concreting the road from Marikamba Temple to Jayashree Gate — 220 m — at an estimated cost of Rs. 10 lakh. This road would be five metres wide.
He also performed guddali pooja to asphalt the St. Theresa School Road and Sixth Cross Road at Shivbagh, both works estimated to cost Rs. 10 lakh each.
Mr. Lobo also inaugurated three concrete roads that were completed in interior areas.
Mayor Mahabala Marla said here on Monday that the new concrete road between Ambedkar (Jyothi) Circle and Bunts Hostel Junction will be thrown open to traffic by Tuesday.
Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of performing the guddali pooja (ground-breaking ceremony) for two road works at Mallikatta and Kadri, the Mayor said that there would be no formal inauguration ceremony for opening up the new concrete road.
