City resident ‘conned’ out of ₹11.39 lakh

He follows instructions of U.K. woman who had agreed to marry him

A 35-year-old resident of Kinnigoli here has filed a complaint of being cheated of ₹11.39 lakh after he followed instructions of a UK-based woman, who had agreed to marry him.

The cyber crime police said that the 35-year-old man had posted his details on a matrimonial website.

Stella Moris, a UK-based citizen, responded and sent a message through Whatsapp to the complainant agreeing to marry him.

She asked him to come down to England where she offered to get him a job.

The complainant contacted one Michael Antony and paid him ₹ 26,560 as visa charges and paid one James Baven ₹83,000 for the anti-terrorist certificate. In all, the complainant has transferred to Ms. Stella and two others a sum of ₹ 11,39,535 on various dates in the last few days, the police said.

On Monday, the complainant filed a complaint of cheating with the cyber crime police. The police have registered a case of cheating and are investigating it.
