Chittani Yakshagana Saptaha from tomorrow

The 10th annual Chittani Yakshagana Saptaha would be held at Rajangana here from October 22 to 28 under the joint auspices of Sri Krishna Mutt, Sri Veeranjaneya Yakshamitra Mandali, Bangarmakki and Chittani Abhimani Balaga.

A press release issued here on Friday said that there would be a Yakshagana performance at 6.30 p.m. at Rajangana during the Saptaha.

The Yakshagana performances scheduled to be staged are: Prameelarjuna-Babhruvahana on October 22, Chitrasena Kalaga on October 23, Jambavati Kalyana on October 24, Chandrahasa Charitre on October 25, Gadhayudha on October 26, Shwetakumara Charitre on October 27 and Madhura Mahindra on October 28.

Two awards would be given during the valedictory of the festival at 6 p.m. on October 28. The Padmashri Chittani Ramachandra Hegde Prashasti would be given to senior Yakshagana artiste Shiralgi Bhaskar Joshi, who is famous for donning female roles.

The T.V. Rao Prashasti will be given to Yakshagana artiste Krishnakumar Rao Mattu.

Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt and Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, junior seer, would be among the guests at the valedictory, the release added.
