More than 600 children from 10 orphanages in the city took part in games and other entertainment activities organised as part of the annual inter-orphanage Olympics sports and cultural meet at the Canara High School, Urwa Grounds, on Sunday.

The event was organised jointly by the Rotaract Club of Mangaluru.

Among the events that the children took part in included frog jumping, jumping with gunny bags, lemon and spoon and notebook balancing. The students did a march past before taking part enthusiastically in all the events.

Inaugurating the event, Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath lauded the initiative by the Rotaract Club in providing a forum for children from orphanages to display their talent.

He called upon organisations to work towards eliminating social inequality and lend support to the needy in society. Mr. Kamath assured his support for social activities of the club.

Chairman of the organising committee of the event Devdas Rai said that the intention of holding the programme was to bring smiles on the faces of children by driving away the feeling of loneliness.
