Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Basavaraju said that parents had to visit many experts to detect disabilities in their children and also for treatment.

To address this issue, this centre would be started here soon.

Services of paediatricians, orthopaedists, ENT specialists, psychiatrists, and physiotherapists will be available at this centre.

Children will get the required treatment and parents will also be given advice on how to take care of them. It had been decided to open this centre on the premises of the District Government Hospital here.

Presently, there ar 16,000 persons with disabilities in Udupi district. The yardstick of identifying persons with disabilities had been changed recently. Hence, about 25,000 persons with disabilities might be living in the district, he said.
