Bengaluru-based National Law School of India University has petitioned the Union Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan regarding the recent Big Billion sale in which a number of web visitors alleged that they did not get what was promised.

After a couple of students conducted a research, the university has given a report to the Union Ministry saying that it should file a complaint with the National Consumer Commission, according to Ashok R. Patil, Chair Professor, Chair on Consumer Law and Practice at the university.

Under the Consumer Protection Act, he said, even the Union government can file a complaint with the National Commission with a view to helping consumers.

“We have submitted all details under what section they can file a complaint in the report,” he told The Hindu on the sidelines of a workshop on consumer protection at a college here. The copies have been submitted to the Secretary to the department and its Joint Secretary too. “We are hoping they can (will) file a complaint,” he said.
