Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd. (CAMPCO) will install a 400 kW solar power generation unit at its chocolate factory in Puttur on the build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) model, according to president S. R. Satishchandra.

He told presspersons here on Thursday that the factory requires 60 lakh units of power annually. It produces 45 lakh units annually from its three windmill turbine generators in Hoovinahadagali and Chikkodi. Thus, it is dependent on the grid power for the remaining 15 lakh units. The proposed solar power unit will generate 5 lakh units of power annually. Then the dependency of the factory on the grid power will be reduced to 10 lakh units per year.

It has set up 1.25-MW capacity windmill in Hoovinahadagali and each of the two windmills at Chikkodi has the capacity to produce 0.85 MW of power a year, he said.

Mr. Satishchandra said that the cooperative achieved an all time high turnover of ₹1,878 crore during 2018-19.

It purchased arecanut valued at ₹1,589.15 crore, cocoa valued at ₹76 crore, pepper valued at ₹24 crore and rubber valued at ₹27 crore during the period.

The arecaut valued at ₹1,593.40 crores, pepper valued at ₹18 crore, rubber valued at ₹28 crore were sold during the financial year. Chocolates worth ₹203 crore were sold during the last financial year.
