Builder accused of threatening group

A builder, who is close to a Union Minister, has been accused of sporting a pistol and threatening a group that was surveying land adjoining his property.

The builder in turn has accused the group of venturing into his property and assaulting him.

The incident occurred in Padushedde village in Bondel on Wednesday.

According to a complaint filed by Vijayprasad Alva, the Executive Director of Human Rights Federation of India, he had joined Surveyor Prashant in the survey of land belonging to Thukaram Shetty.

This land measuring 2.2 acres was adjoining to the property of Shankar Shetty, who had agreed to sell the land to Rai Estate and Builders owned by Ashok Kumar Rai.

While carrying out the survey procedures, Mr. Rai came with a few men and reportedly objected to the work.

When Mr. Alva questioned Mr. Rai, he allegedly hit him and then threatened him of his life by pointing a pistol.

Countering this complaint, Mr. Rai has filed a compliant accusing Mr. Alva and his men of assaulting him when he had questioned the ingression of Mr. Rai and the surveyor into the land owned by Shankar Shetty.

Drowned

A 32-year-old matador driver drowned in the sea at the Someshwar beach on Wednesday.

According to Ullal police, Naveen D’Souza (32) of Thokkottu had gone with his friends to the beach because of the nationwide bandh.

Naveen D’Souza had a round of volleyball and then entered waters. He slipped and got caught in the sea waters.

He died before local swimmers brought him out, the police said.

Stolen

Thieves broke into the Somanatheshwara Durgaparameshwari Temple in Pavoor and took away a 1.5 kg silver idol and the closed circuit camera recording unit on Tuesday night.

The theft was noticed when the temple priest came to the temple on Wednesday morning and found the main door of the premises open. The Ullal Police have registered a case of theft.
