Council meeting

Mangaluru City Corporation council will hold its monthly meeting on January 27 at 3 p.m. Mayor Mahabala Marla will preside over it.

Two-day seminar

Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Mangaluru University, will organise a two-day seminar on ‘media in the contemporary world’ from January 22.

Brij Kishore Kuthiala, Vice-Chancellor, Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal, will inaugurate it. B.P. Sanjay, former Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur, and former Director, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Delhi, will deliver the key note address.

Konkani chair

The founder president of World Konkani Centre Basti Vaman Shenoy has congratulated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for his assurance on starting a Konkani chair at Mangaluru University from the next academic year. He appreciated the efforts of J.R. Lobo, MLA, Mangaluru City South, and Roy Castelino, chairman, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, for their efforts.

Demand for hostel

Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti has urged the government to construct a separate hostel for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes students in the campus of Mangaluru University. In a memorandum to Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya, it said that currently the campus had two hostels for the backward caste and minority students.
