Botanist Gopalakrishna Bhat passes away

K. Gopalakrishna Bhat, who retired as professor of botany (taxonomy research) from Poorna Prajna College, Udupi, passed away at his residence in Chitpadi, Udupi, on Thursday.

A native of Kakunje village in Kasaragod district of Kerala, Dr. Bhat, an eminent botanist, served the PPC for over three decades. He authored several research works in botany.

Dr. Bhat is survived by his wife.

Dr. Bhat worked on Sedges and Grasses of undivided Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts, Zingiberaceae of Karnataka and Flora of Udupi and Palms of Karnataka.
