Bommai: Udupi will get tourism development task force

Udupi in-charge Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said the administration will set up a task force to develop the tourism sector in the district.

Speaking at the World Tourism Day celebrations at Udupi, Mr. Bommai said there were abundant opportunities to develop tourism. The task force comprising tourism experts, entrepreneurs, investors, people’s representatives and officials will be set up to develop tourism in line with tourism policies of the Central and State governments as well as the CRZ norms.

The Minister urged entrepreneurs engaged in tourism activities to give preference to local people whenever they undertake new projects.

Everyone should cooperate to bring “Incredible Udupi” with the relaxed CRZ norms and reduced GST on the hospitality sector, he said.

In his introductory address, Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadeesh urged entrepreneurs not to just concentrate on the guests, but also give attention towards employment creation and giving jobs to local peple. Raghupathi Bhat, Haladi Srinivas Shetty, V. Sunil Kumar, Lalaji R. Mendon and B.M. Sukumara Shetty, MLAs, ZP president Dinakar Babu, Superintendent of Police Nisha James, ZP CEO Preethi Gehlot, and others were present.

Mr. Bommai later conducted the district development review meeting.
