BKC questions Ministers’ ability to handle issues

May 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:59 pm IST - MANGALURU:

The former Congress minister B.K. Chandrashekar on Friday criticised some Cabinet ministers for “bothering” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to resolve issues related to their portfolios.

In an informal chat with presspersons after visiting the University College, a composite college of Mangalore University, Mr. Chandrashekar said, “Should the Chief Minister be made to intervene to resolve issues relating to dumping of garbage in Mandur? Can’t the minister in-charge of Bengaluru city handle it?”

The Chief Minister being asked to resolve issues pertaining to striking government doctors, among other things, “is the wrong approach”, he said.

Secularism plank

Mr. Chandrashekhar said that the Congress in the State should gear up to counter the attack by Sangh Parivar groups on the secular credentials of the party. Congress should aggressively campaign on the secular principles upheld by Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi. The views of Nehru and Gandhi on religion and secularism have not been projected properly by the party, he said.

The party should constitute a team of four members in each district to propagate the secular principles of the party and the views of Nehru and Gandhi on religion and secularism, he said.

The Sangh Parivar was carrying out a campaign that the Congress was against Hindu religion. This was not right, he said.
