Using the convention of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries here on Friday to launch the campaign for the coming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP alleged that the Congress had done little for the country’s development in its long rule.

Addressing the gathering, Pralhad V. Joshi, MP and chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas, alleged that the Congress has been indulging in anti-propaganda against the NDA government over the Rafale deal and electronic voting machine (EVM) matters as it feared defeat in the elections. He said the Supreme Court has said that there is no occasion to doubt the process of signing the Rafale deal.

Mr. Joshi alleged that the Congress has been indulging in a misinformation campaign against the Union government. Referring to the recent appoint of Priyanka Gandhi as the Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) region, he said it will in no way affect the BJP or the NDA. He accused her husband of grabbing government land in Haryana.

Mr. Joshi said that Congress rule between 1947 and 2004 witnessed several scams. He said that the Congress did not dare fence the border between India and Bangladesh and added that now, the NDA had begun fencing it to prevent illegal immigration.

Alleging that the Congress has “looted the country” during its 60-year rule, he claimed that now common people were feeling “achhe din” (good days) but not the Congress.

Ramesh Jigajinagi, Union Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation, said that the Centre aimed to make the country open-defecation free in 2019. He said he would organise a similar convention in Vijayapura to distribute cooking gas connections to the poor before the elections.

The convention was also organised to hand over free cooking gas connections to rural women of Bantwal under Extended Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (EPMUY) – II.
