Motorcyclists from Bangalore dominated the finals of the Gulf Dirt Track National Championship held at the Fisheries College Grounds here on Sunday.

The Bangalore Motorcyclists bagged the first three places in five categories, besides securing first two places in two races. Mangalore motorcyclists made a mark in the championship, which had 14 categories in all. Sajeesh K. topped in the Novice Class Group C up to 165 cc and the Mangalore Class up to 165 cc race. People had gathered in good numbers to watch the event organised jointly by Sportscraft Mumbai in association with Mangalore Motor Sports Association. “Compared to other venues, this track is short. But we have made best use of the available space,” Srikant Karani, president of Sportscraft, told The Hindu .

It was a challenge for motorists to perform in the sunny and humid conditions. Motorcyclists were seen dabbing water on them before the race to keep them cool. “It takes a lot to perform here. Unless you have warmed up its difficult to perform in these conditions,” said Madhu S. from Bangalore.

Mr. Madhu topped in the Indian Expert Motorcycle upto 260 cc race 1, while coming second and third in the Local Class race and the Indian Expert Motorcycle upto 260 cc race 2 respectively.
