Attempt to murder industrialist: two held

The Central Crime Branch police have arrested an 18-year-old man, who is the son of a person involved in criminal activities and was murdered in 2009, and his accomplice on the charge of attempting to murder an industrialist.

The police gave the names of the accused as Pavan Raj Shetty of Vamanjoor and Kumar T.M (34) of Jeppinamogaru. The police said Pavan and Kumar were found roaming around in Vamanjoor searching for the industrialist, whom they suspected of giving money to people involved in Pavan’s father Rohidas Shetty’s murder.

The CCB police have recovered three machetes, 250 g of ganja, a mobile phone and a motorcycle. The CCB has handed them over to Mangaluru Rural Police.

Money stolen

Thieves broke open the office room of St. Joseph Joyland School in Kolya and made away with Rs. 70,000 on Wednesday. According to a complaint filed with the Ullal police, thieves gained entry into the office room between 7.30 p.m. of Tuesday and 7.30 a.m. of Wednesday.

Theft

A thief took away gold ornaments and cash from two houses in Bajjodi on Tuesday afternoon. According to a complaint registered with the Mangaluru Rural police, a thief entered the house of Philomena Tauro around 2.30 p.m. and snatched her gold chain. Ms. Tauro caught hold of her chain tightly and raised an alarm. The thief ran away with a piece of the gold chain. When Ms. Tauro’s neighbour Regina Pinto returned to her house after visiting her, she saw that the thief had entered her house and made away with two gold rings worth Rs. 6,000, two ear rings worth Rs. 7,500, Rs. 6,000 and a few electric items.
