Another prayer hall found damaged in stone-throwing

The Ullal police, who are investigating the damage of window panes of a prayer hall on Tuesday, have found that similar damage was done to another prayer hall on the same day.

Unidentified persons allegedly threw stones at a prayer hall in Kumpala in the early hours of Tuesday.

The police acted swiftly on the report and launched efforts to trace the perpetrators. On Tuesday evening, the management of another prayer hall, which is few meters away from the prayer hall in Kumpala, filed a complaint about damage to window panes following pelting.

Apart from searching for the perpetrators, the Ullal police have advised the managements of the two prayer halls to install night vision closed circuit cameras that helps in tracing persons involved in such acts.

Impersonation

The police arrested a person from Haryana on the charges of cheating and cheating by impersonation here on Monday.

The Manipal police said here on Tuesday that it had arrested Anshul Grower (26), a resident of Kurukshetra in Haryana, in Manipal on June 8 on the basis of a complaint given by Manipal University. According to the complaint, Anshul had applied for an MD seat and written an online examination on February 19, 2015. He then attended the counselling on March 10 and got selected for an MD seat. He submitted original documents to the University on May 20.

But when these documents were checked for biometric and finger prints on May 30, they did not tally.

The police said that the person who wrote the examination, who attended the counselling, and the person who finally came for admission, was different.

A person impersonating Anshul had written the online examination and a different person had come for the counselling and cheated Manipal University. Anshul was arrested in Manipal on Monday and produced before the court in Udupi on Tuesday, which remanded him in judicial custody till Wednesday.

A case under Sections 419 and 420 of Indian Penal Code and Sections 25 and 118 of Karnataka Education Act had been registered at Manipal police station and investigations were on, the police said

Man held for sexual assault

The Kadaba police have arrested 30-year-old Ramesh for alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in Ramakunja village on June 5.

The police said the accused raped the girl when her parents went to work.

On a complaint by the victim’s parents, the Kadaba police arrested Ramesh on Sunday.

The local Magistrate has remanded Ramesh in 15 days of judicial custody.

Six remanded

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested six persons in Udupi and Hiriyadka on the charge of theft and trying to sell gold ornaments stolen from Hassan in Udupi district on Tuesday.

According to the police, of the six accused, three were arrested in Hiriyadka and three in Udupi.

Those arrested in Hiriyadka were identified as Kala, Kumara and Subash, while Rajesh, Ashok and another person also called Ashok were arrested here.

The total value of gold ornaments recovered from them has been estimated at Rs. 1.02 lakh.

The accused were produced before court which remanded them in judicial custody for 15 days.

A case has been registered at the Hiriyadka police station.

Investigation is on, the police said.
