The Mangaluru police have arrested another alleged associate of underworld operatives Ravi Poojary and Khali Yogish.
He is among the 31 persons arrested so far.
The police gave the name of the arrested person as Vishal C. Uchil , 27, a resident of Capitanio. The police said Uchil’s report provided the two underworld operatives with mobile numbers of wealthy people in the city.
The two underworld operatives called a few of these persons for extorting money.
The police said they have gathered evidence about a conversation that reportedly took place between Uchil and the two underworld operatives. Uchil was also providing numbers of wealthy people to Pratap Shetty, an undertrial lodged in the Mangaluru District Prison, the police said
The police have recovered five live bullets and four mobile phones from Uchil. The police had launched a crackdown on the alleged associates of Ravi Poojary and Khali Yogish since last year. After the arrests, they have so far recovered seven weapons.
