Ambuja Cement has set up Ambuja Knowledge Centre near its bulk cement handling terminal here to share knowledge on concrete, construction technology and civil engineering among masons, contractors and civil engineers.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, the company’s customer support group head Umesh Soni said the centre had planned 15 technical events for the next six months. “It intends to conduct skill-building programmes for 1,000 masons by 2020. Around 200 contractors and 100 construction engineers will be trained by the end of 2016,” he said.

Mr. Soni said Ambuja Cement launched its first fully automatic one million tonne capacity terminal in Mangaluru last year. The new terminal enables Ambuja to receive imported cement and reduces the logistic cost by having common vessel for Mangaluru and Kochi bulk cement terminals. Across the country, it planned to train 18,000 masons and 15,000 contractors with certified construction courses by 2020. The customer support group had so far trained more than 10,000 masons and 5,000 contractors through its knowledge centres, Mr. Soni added.
