Advanced scanner at New Mangalore Port soon

A.K. Jyotishi, Chief Commissioner of Customs, Bengaluru Zone, said here on Tuesday that the Customs would install an advanced scanner at New Mangalore Port to check fraud and trafficking.

During a chat with reporters after inaugurating the 133-year-old renovated Customs House at the Old Port, he said the department had procured the scanner. It would be installed in two months, he said.

Now, goods and material under suspicion are being checked at the port through risk-management system by opening the consignments, Mr. Jyotishi said.

When the advanced scanner is installed, the machine itself will take care of the detection. It will reduce the requirement of manpower and the time for checking goods and material, he said.
