The Dakshina Kannada district administration has fully geared up to conduct the elections for 3,397 seats in 227 gram panchayats (GP) in the district on May 28.
It has warned political parties not to indulge in campaigning on party lines and threatened to countermand polls if they continue with the same.
As many as 12 complaints have been received, a majority against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with regard to campaign on party lines, said Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer A.B. Ibrahim on Tuesday.
He told presspersons here that two cases have already been registered and the rest of the complaints are under investigation.
Pamphlets distributed
Pamphlets portraying the achievements of the Narendra Modi-government were being distributed in Puttur and Sullia taluks. Similar campaign propagandas were on in Belthangady taluk too. Mr. Ibrahim he had urged political parties during a meeting on Monday not to indulge in such campaign.
“Still complaints are coming,” he said.
Booth at Banjarumale
The State Election Commission has allowed the setting up of a polling booth at the remote Banjarumale village under Neriya GP in Belthangady taluk for 106 voters.
While voters were earlier being ferried by political parties, the administration had arranged vehicles during the last year’s Lok Sabha polls.
This time, a dedicated booth has been established, Mr. Ibrahim said.
He would be visiting the village on Wednesday to oversee the preparations.
The village, inhabited by tribals, had been in the news for acute lack of various civic amenities and had been waiting for the visit of the Deputy Commissioner for three decades, before Mr. Ibrahim visited it on June 5 last.
Polling duty
As many as 5,412 personnel, including 227 returning officers, have been drafted for poll duty.
The district administration has arranged 582 vehicles for polling purposes, including 188 buses, 20 mini buses, 105 mini vans and 269 multi-purpose vehicles, he said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner B. Sadashiva Prabhu was present.
