Inspector who went to arrest him also injured in shootout

The city police shot at Bhavith Raj, an accused in eight criminal cases, in Adyar, Mangaluru, when he tried to attack policemen who went to arrest him on July 9 morning.

The Kankanady police were on the lookout for Raj in connection with an assault of the driver of a vehicle carrying fruits in Kankanady on July 7. The police questioned about 30 persons in connection with the attack.

On a tip-off, the Kankanady Police Inspector went to arrest Raj from a hideout. When Raj attacked the Inspector, the other policemen fired at the accused.

Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil said Raj and the Inspector have been shifted to a private hospital for treatment.
