Yeddyurappa must resign: Poojary

October 03, 2010 04:28 pm | Updated November 28, 2021 09:36 pm IST - MANGALORE:

B. Janardhana Poojary, former Union Minister, on Saturday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, following the allegations that the latter had denotified certain lands to favour his sons.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Poojary termed the alleged action of the Chief Minister a “criminal offence” and said that there was a prima facie case against Mr. Yddyurappa.

Demand

“Mr. Yeddyurappa should set an example by relinquishing his post and instituting an unbiased and impartial inquiry into the allegations against him and his sons,” Mr. Poojary said.

The Opposition was not wrong in seeking the Chief Minister's resignation when his sons are facing grave charges, he added.

False affidavit

The Chief Minister's son, B.S. Raghavendra, had filed a false affidavit with the Election Commission, Mr. Poojary said.

When allegations of sexual assault against the former Minister for Food and Civil Supplies H. Halappa surfaced, Mr. Yeddyurappa had accepted his resignation.

Past events

The same thing happened in the case of the former Minister for Medical Education Ramachandra Gowda.

Inaction

However, there was no such move in the case of Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, whose son, Jagadish Naidu, is now in judicial custody, he said.

When presspersons brought Mr. Poojary's attention to a question on why the Congress was silent on the allegations of misappropriation of Commonwealth Games funds that surfaced recently and also the 2G spectrum scam, Mr. Poojary said, “A situation will arise when they (the accused officials) too will have to resign.”
