Workshop on pottery, carpentry, palm leaf origami in Manipal

‘Experience Handmade,’ the pre-event of Namma Angadi 2017, a workshop aimed at training people in artistic pursuits such as pottery, carpentry and palm leaf origami, will be held here on February 18.

The event is aimed at rejuvenating creative pursuits, while keeping in line with the theme of Namma Angadi – rural and traditional art. The workshop is being organised jointly by School of Communication, Namma Bhoomi and Concerned for Working Children (CWC).

‘Namma Angadi’ is the annual corporate social responsibility event of Manipal University, conducted by School of Communication, to the struggling regional-level artisans. . The workshop is divided into two time slots – 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The emphasis on local craftsmen. Their artistic tradition and handmade artefacts will be the highlight of the Experience Handmade.

Raghuram Kulal of Aloor village will teach pottery at the workshop, while palm leaf origami will be taught by Krishna Poojary from the Regional Resource Centre (RRC).

Chandrashekar S. Adiga, Deputy Registrar (Technical), Manipal University, will inaugurate the workshop. Subraya Achari, a traditional carpenter, and Jagadeesh, entrepreneur, would be present at the inaugural function.
