Workshop on Sanskrit computation linguisticsbegins today

The Dvaita Philosophy Resource Centre (DPRC), Department of European Studies (DES), a constituent of Manipal University, will organise a four-day international workshop on “Sanskrit Computational Linguistics linking Sanskrit grammar and texts with modern Science and Technology”, here from Monday to Thursday.

Srinivasa Kumar N. Acharya, Assistant Professor and Centre Coordinator, DPRC, said that the workshop was being held as part of the research project, “Grammatical Analysis and XML tagging of the Mahabharata”.

The highlights of the workshop are: Interactive discussions with subject experts with reference to Sanskrit literature, Exposure to Computer Science and Sanskrit Studies, Understanding of Natural Language Processing and Computational Linguistics, Applications of computational linguistics tools in advanced studies and research, Practical sessions of language parsing and other techniques.

The topics which will be covered in the workshop are: Segmentation and morphological analysis of Sanskrit texts; Parsing of Sanskrit texts, Text encoding and XML tagging of Sanskrit texts; Online Sanskrit lexical resources; Shabdabodha systems (verbal cognition of texts); Sanskrit WorldNet and other resources; Use of Sanskrit computational tools in Sanskrit research and Statistical processing of Sanskrit texts
