A week's time to be given to reply

July 10, 2010 08:23 pm | Updated 08:23 pm IST - MANGALORE:

The Syndicate of Mangalore University in its meeting on Thursday decided to issue a show-cause notice to the Principal Investigator of a research project against whom two women researchers have filed a complaint of harassment. The researchers subsequently resigned and opted out of the project.

The Syndicate also decided to issue show-cause notices to the Principal of B.T. Chanaiah Gowramma Government First Grade College in Somwarpet, Kodagu, and a lecturer in the same college for conducting an examination ahead of schedule, which resulted in the university having to conduct the examination afresh. University sources said that the Syndicate had gathered information from different sources about the conduct of the principal investigator against whom the women had complained.

Sources in the university told The Hindu that a week's time would be given to the teachers concerned to reply to the notices. After receiving their replies, a special meeting of the Syndicate will be held to decide on the future course of action.
