Tribunal reserves judgment on sand extraction in CRZ

The National Green Tribunal (Southern Zone), Chennai, on Thursday reserved its judgment in the case of sand extraction in Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) areas of Udupi district. Ranjan Shetty, advocate for the applicants, Udaya Suvarna and others from Baikady and Kukkude villages in Udupi district, told The Hindu that he had made his closing arguments in the case for about an hour before the tribunal on Thursday. With this, both the sides had presented their arguments.

The tribunal had asked both the sides to file their written arguments, if they wanted to do so, within a week. The tribunal had reserved judgment in the case. The judgment would be delivered on the date, when the case is listed. The stay order on sand extraction in CRZ areas of Udupi district will continue till then, he said.
