The Students Federation of India (SFI) would be holding a two-day State-level seminar on educational issues here on January 8 and 9.
Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Secretary of State unit of SFI Ananth Naik said that the seminar was being held to mark the 40th anniversary of SFI and 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. Over 1,000 student delegates from different parts of the State would be participating in the two-day seminar.
The SFI, established in 1970, had been fighting for secularism, progressive and democratic values. It had fought against imperialism and against commercialization and saffronization of education.
Only nine per cent of people in the country had access to higher education. Teachers were being appointed on contract basis, which did not help either the teachers or the students. “All matters connected to education would be discussed threadbare”, he said.
INTEGRATION RALLY
The SFI would be taking out an Integration Rally from the Town Hall here on January 8. MP and President of national unit of SFI P.K. Biju would inaugurate the seminar after the rally. Former MLA G.V. Sriram Reddy, writer Fakir Mohammed and President of State unit of SFI H.R. Naveenkumar would be participating in the inaugural function.
Those who worked for the student movement would be felicitated the same evening. A discussion on “History of student movement and contemporary challenges” would be held in the morning session on January 9. Secretary of the national unit of SFI Ritobrath Banerjee would participate in the discussion.
The valedictory of the seminar would be held the same evening. Besides Mr. Banerjee, General Secretary of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha G.C. Bayya Reddy would be participating in it, Mr. Naik said.
President of the Reception Committee Hayavadana Moodusagri, General Secretary S. Kaviraj, Vice President Admar Sripati Acharya and member Sujith were present.
