The Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation distributed loans worth Rs. 11.17 lakh among the 129 members of 17 self-help groups (SHGs) at Ullal and Deralakatte, near here, on Sunday.
It was distributed under the micro-credit finance scheme of the corporation for starting small business units. Women beneficiaries of SHGs from Muslim community received the loans. .
Chairman of the corporation N.B. Aboobakkar, MLA U.T. Khader and Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada J. Krishna Palemar were present.
Speaking at Deralakatte, Mr. Aboobakkar said that the corporation had advanced loans of Rs.14.6 lakh to over 140 SHGs in Dakshina Kannada in the last fiscal, also under the same scheme.
Mr. Palemar said that Dakshina Kannada ranked second in the State for repayment of micro-credit loans by SHGs, after Belgaum.
Mr. Khader told the beneficiaries to use the loans judiciously.
One of the beneficiaries told The Hindu that the group she was representing planned to start a tailoring unit and a flower shop with the Rs. 1 lakh loan she got on the occasion.
