The Udupi district administration on Friday clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code in a two-kilometre radius of toll plazas at Hejmady and Sasthan (Gundmi) in the district till the midnight of February 15 to maintain peace and order.

In a notification issued here on Friday, T. Venkatesh, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, said that the toll plazas at both Hejmady and Sasthan had started collecting toll.

There was a possibility of public protests and bandhs and destruction to public property due to the collection of toll.

As per the report given by the Superintendent of Police, prohibitory orders had been imposed in a 2-km radius of both the plazas with effect from 6 p.m. on February 10 till midnight of February 15.

This was essential to maintain peace and order and to protect public property.
