Nearly two months after PG exams, students still awaiting results

Registrar (Evaluation) A.M. Khan says allresults will be out within a week

July 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - MANGALURU:

The entire Mangalore University has just four post-graduate students in the Electronics stream who appeared for the final semester examination this May. Though the evaluation of their answer scripts, according to sources, was completed about a month ago, the university, having computerised the tabulation system of marks, has not yet announced the results.

This is not the case with only one post-graduate course whose final semester examination results have been delayed beyond expectation.

Of the 36 post-graduate courses whose final semester examinations were conducted in May, the university has not announced the results of any of the courses even about two months after the examinations were conducted. Strangely, the evaluation of answer scripts of some of the courses is still going on.

Sources in the Mangalore University Teachers Association (MUTA) told The Hindu that the evaluation of the answer scripts of 25 courses have been completed now and sent to the examination section for tabulation and announcement of results. Of them, for example, sets of evaluated scripts of some courses were sent on July 6 and later, on July 12 and on July 16. But none of their results have been announced.

About 10 departments are yet to complete the evaluation of answer scripts.

The sources said that a majority of courses do not have more than 100 students. Only courses such as Chemistry, Physics and Commerce have more than 100 students. The university has not been able to announce the results of even departments having less than 20 students. For example, the results of Material Science Department having 11 students and Marine Geology having 14 students are not out yet.

The sources said that with computerised tabulation in force, it is possible to announce the results within 10 days after evaluation of answer scripts is completed. The university has done this earlier. But, this time, the university is not bothered about the future of the students who are not able to apply for jobs. This is the first time in the recent years that post-graduate results have been delayed stretching up to August.

In some cases, the university has not issued the final marks cards of post-graduate students who appeared for the third semester examinations in December last.

A.M. Khan, Registrar (Evaluation) of the university, said that evaluation of answer scripts of 31 courses have been completed. July 30 would be the deadline for completing the evaluation of the scripts. Now, the tabulation of marks and verification were under progress. Results of all courses would be announced within a week.
