Candidates cautioned

Candidates contesting the gram panchayat elections have been warned against using symbols of political parties or photographs of political leaders during their campaign

Deputy Commissioner P. Hemalatha, in a press release here on Thursday, said any pamphlet, poster, banner or other publicity material containing such symbols or photographs would be seized and cases registered against the candidate concerned for violation of the model code of conduct.

While there is no bar on holding cultural or religious programmes, politicians should not use such programmes to influence voters through slogans, statements or assurances. These guidelines have been issued by the State Election Commission, the release said.
