More than 10 lakh members owing allegiance to the United Front of Bank Unions will observe a one-day token strike on February 28.

All India Bank Officers Confederation president Y. Sudarshan told reporters here on Wednesday that the employees are opposing retrograde amendments in banking and trade union laws; all anti-worker and anti-public sector moves and outsourcing permanent jobs.

The unions demand that adequate compensation be paid to officers and staff of banks for working late and on holidays during the demonetisation process; reimbursement of cost of demonetisation to the banking industry; increase in gratuity limits and making it tax free; full tax exemption for leave encashment; early commencement of wage revision exercise and many more.

Canara Bank Officers Organisation president Eknath Baliga and general secretary Manimaran were present.
