The Indian Medical Association and the Association of Medical Consultants took out a silent protest march here on Saturday to condemn the attack on doctors by Ananthkumar Hegde, Uttara Kannada MP, at a hospital in Sirsi recently.

They marched from IMA house to A.B. Shetty Circle. IMA Mangaluru unit president Raghavendra Bhat, IMA former president G.K. Bhat, Shantram Shetty, K.R. Kamath and Annaiah Kulal were present. Medical students and nursing students too joined the rally.

The doctors presented a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner K.G. Jagadeesha. They sought proper implementation of the Karnataka Prohibition of Violence Against Medical Service Personnel and Damage to Property In Medicare Service Institutions Act, 2009.

Doctors said laxity in enforcing the provisions of the Act was deterring them from attending to emergency cases.
