When it comes to offering gifts to loved ones during any family event, one would normally get them from shops though unsure of their utility after they are presented.

However, there are quite a few gift items which could remain forever with the loved ones with their uniqueness. Here is a person who has taken up producing hand-made, laser-engraved wooden clocks as a pure passion besides his regular avocation of web designing. His yearning for creativity has brought Saligrama Dinesh Holla to the world of home-made wooden clocks.

Settled in his home-town Saligrama after working for a few years for corporates in the field of web design, Mr. Holla (44) has been doing web designing and caricaturing. The inspiration came from somewhere when his computer was out of order for a couple of days and he was watching woodworking videos on his android. Mr. Holla was fascinated by a video where one artist instantaneously made a wooden gift article.

From there, he began exploring more in this arena and conceptualised hand-made wooden clocks. Mr. Holla procures required wooden planks of Sampige tree ( Magnolia champaca ) from Kodagu and cuts them to make clocks.

After a few coats of polish, he engraves the clock dial and special messages (if any) on its face using a laser machine. Laser engraving lasts long, he says.

Then he fixes specially made-to-order clock hands on the front and the clock mechanism on the rear. Stronger hour, minute and second hands are fixed to ensure durability as the clock does not have an external cover. Though clocks are uniform in size, one can get message of one’s choice engraved on their faces to suit one’s needs. Mr. Holla normally receives orders on his Whatsapp (8861039229), homepage-http://www.indianclock.in or Facebook page-https://www.facebook.com/saligramawoodenclocks. He charges Rs. 900 plus shipping for a clock to be sent through India Post within a week of the order and advance payment. So far he has sent about 200 clocks to customers in different parts of the country as well as abroad.

He also has plans to venture into other hand-made articles after expanding his workshop.
