70-year-old injured after bus hits her

The city bus driver reportedly drove in a negligent manner after dropping passengers at the Mulihitlu bus stop and hit her.

A 70-year-old woman was injured after a city bus ran over her legs near Mangaladevi Temple on Friday evening.

According to a complaint filed with the Mangaluru East Traffic police station on Saturday, Champa (70), a resident of Sasihitlu, was walking along the roadside.

The city bus driver reportedly drove in a negligent manner after dropping passengers at the Mulihitlu bus stop and hit her.

The left wheels of the bus then went over the legs of Champa. She has been admitted to a private hospital, the police said.

Burglary

Mobile phones and mobile accessories were stolen from Global Mobiles outlet in Shivadurga complex in Surathakal on Saturday morning. According to Surathkal police, thieves broke open the shutters of the store and took away eight new mobile phones, 10 mobile phones that had come for repair, a computer hard disc and some mobile phone accessories, in all worth Rs. 70,000.

Thieves also stole some articles from the adjoining Power World shop, the police said.

Boy commits suicide

A 17-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide after failing in the first year PU examination, at Cherkady village coming under Brahmavar police station limits on June 26. The district police said Mohith (17), who was studying in SMS Pre-University College, had failed in this first year exams.

He had hidden it from his parents and feared that they would come to know of it.

He committed suicide at his house between 11 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. on June 26. A case of unnatural death had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.

Illegal quarry

The Moodbidri police have registered a case against Ashok Kumar for allegedly running a stone quarry in a forest land in Nellikaru village near Moodbidri.

A complaint was filed by Nagendrappa from the Department of Geology on Friday.
