23 students faint after ‘panic attack’

As many as 23 women college students got admitted to hospitals in Koteshwara following a panic attack on Wednesday night at Vaddarse village coming under Kota police station limits. They were all discharged on Thursday.

According to the Superintendent of Police, M.B. Boralingaiah, the students of the Rukmini Shedti Memorial National Government First Grade College, Barkur, were participating in an NSS camp at Vaddarse village.

Pitch dark

They were returning to the government school, where they were staying, at around 10.30 p.m. As it was pitch dark, the students were going in groups of threes and fours.

“The group which was ahead saw a few men passing comments and walking towards them. This frightened them and they screamed. The others too got frightened and ran towards the road and fainted there,” he said.

Ganesh Kamath, physician at the N.R. Acharya Hospital said, “It is a case of panic attack. We kept them under observation. We found no other symptoms”.
