Beginning Thursday, 1,250 students from 17 schools in Mangaluru and Udupi are getting The School Edition of The Hindu free under the Corporate Social Responsibility scheme of the city-based Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd (MCF).
Launching the initiative at Cascia High School at Jeppu here, MCF Director (Works) K. Prabhakara Rao distributed copies of the school edition to students. He shared the dais with in-charge headmistress of the school Alice Rebello.
Prioritise knowledgeMr. Rao said that students of this generation have access to various sources of information and knowledge. They should know how to prioritise them while consuming the information so that it helps them make progress in their career and realise their dreams.
He said that it is important for students to cultivate the reading habit. He told them how he used to visit the office of the panchayat on weekends to read an English newspaper in a village near Moodbidri. This had ensured that he did not lag behind, though he hailed from a rural area.
He said that his company was proud to partner with The Hindu in reaching its school edition to the students.
Several officers from MCF attended. Regional General Manager of The Hindu , Mangaluru, G.R. Venkatesh, welcomed the gathering. Senior AGM K.G. Seshagiri proposed a vote of thanks.
