‘I’ll seek day-to-day hearing of Ram temple issue’

January 30, 2017 12:39 am | Updated 12:39 am IST - MANGALURU:

Expressing happiness with the party including the issue of construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election manifesto, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy said here on Sunday that he would go before the Supreme Court seeking hearing of the original petition related to the Ayodhya Babri Masjid-Ramjanambhoomi dispute on a day-to-day basis, after the elections in that State.

Speaking on the topic, “Build a Ram temple for India’s identity”, Dr. Swamy said that the BJP had mentioned the issue in its Lok Sabha election manifesto in 2014. After getting elected, the party did not push the matter. “I am happy now that party president Amit Shah has finally included the agenda (of constructing the temple) in the manifesto,” he said. Dr. Swamy said that the issue of title of Ramjanambhoomi has not been settled. Nothing has happened in the case in the Supreme Court since September 2010.

Dr. Swamy said that Lord Ram continues to be symbol of the nation. Hindus believe that Lord Ram was born at the disputed site in Ayodhya. Experts have given reports about the existence of a Ram temple before the Babri Masjid was built.

Mr. Swamy said that it was legally justified to build a Ram temple at the place where it existed. “There is a need to fight for protection of our identity,” he said.
