TIRUNELVELI

A 30-year-old man, S. Ganesh Kumar of Eral in Thoothukudi district, and his nephew were killed in a road accident near Palayamkottai on Friday.

Police said Ganesh Kumar, who was working with the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Bank in Veerapandianpattinam near Tiruchendur, was taking his sister C. Rathnakala, 35, and her son Sachin, 7, who had come from Namakkal to Vaeinthaankulam new bus stand, on his bike to Eral in the morning.

When they were crossing Krishnapuram, Ganesh Kumar tried to overtake a bus at high speed without noticing an oncoming bus. As he could neither overtake the bus nor control the speed to avert possible collision with the oncoming bus, Ganesh Kumar’s bike hit the bus going in front of him and they fell on the road.

While Ganesh Kumar, who sustained a grievous head injury, died on the spot, Sachin and Ms. Rathnakala suffered bleeding injuries. They were rushed to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, where Sachin succumbed to his injuries. The condition of Ms. Rathnakala is said to be “stable”.

Sivanthipatti police have registered a case.
