Worker killed in blast at fireworks unit

A worker was killed in a blast reported at Ganeswari Fireworks near here on Wednesday.

Police said friction caused while handling chemicals reportedly led to the blast, in which one working shed was razed to the ground at around 1 p.m. S. Aravindsamy, 32, who was working inside the shed was trapped in the debris. When Fire and Rescue Services personnel removed the debris, he was found dead.

The body was sent to Sivakasi Government Hospital. Maraneri police are investigating.
