Hundreds of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) cadres sat on a day-long fast here demanding withdrawal of increase in price of milk and bus fare on Thursday.

The party MLA, R. Sundararajan, representing the Madurai (South) Assembly constituency, said that the State was being ruled under a dictatorship of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam that has increased the bus fare and milk price exorbitantly.

The party founder, Vijayakanth, had chosen to part ways with the ruling party since the AIADMK leadership did not respect him.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA, R. Annadurai said that the AIADMK leadership had dumped the parties that had supported the party to come back to power. The previous AIADMK government was forced to reverse many of its orders such as ban on animal and bird sacrifice, and imposition of TESMA against government employees.

Similarly, this time also it would have to withdraw the increased bus fare and milk price, he said.

Party MLA, A.K.T. Raja (Tirupparankundram), party district secretaries, R. Aravind and Balachandran, were among those who took part.
