Why AIADMK is silent on high fuel prices: Durai Vaiko

When the AIADMK functionaries protest against the property tax hike, what prevents from demanding the Union government to reduce fuel prices, questioned MDMK headquarters secretary Durai Vaiko here on Tuesday.

Speaking at a demonstration staged against high fuel prices, he said that the party had expressed its concern over the announcement to hike the property tax. “ I am confident that the State government will certainly take into account the welfare of the people and do good,” he said.

However, the AIADMK had chosen to neglect to even voice its remarks on fuel prices, which had touched a new high in Tamil Nadu. When the crude prices remained low at 40 USD, the Centre imposed 70 % duties on the fuel. Citing some reason or the other, the Union government squeezed the common man. Is the AIADMK unaware about this, Mr Durai Vaiko asked and blamed the party for its double standards.

He also claimed that because of the MDMK general secretary Vaiko’s sustained efforts and protests, the neutrino project proposed in Theni district by the Union government had been stalled. The CM also had strongly objected to the project, which had discouraged the Centre from going ahead.

He expressed satisfaction over steps taken by the State government on the Mullaperiyar reservoir row and blamed the AIADMK for playing politics behind it. The AIADMK should refrain from indulging in politics wherever the public interest was paramount, Mr Durai Vaiko said.

He also addressed the media on the intra-party activities being taken to strengthen the MDMK across Tamil Nadu.
