THEKKADI, KERALA, 14/08/2018: The Mullaperiyar Dam or Mullaiperiyar Dam is a  masonry gravity dam on the Periyar River in the Indian state of Kerala. It is located 881m (2,890ft) above mean sea level, on the Cardamom Hills of the Western Ghats in Thekkady, Idukki District of Kerala, South India. It was constructed between 1887 and 1895 by John Pennycuick and also reached in an agreement to donate water eastwards to the Madras Presidency area (Tamil Nadu). MADURAI

Water level in Periyar dam on Sunday stood at 128.55 feet (permissible level is 142 ft.), with an inflow of 5,661 cusecs and a discharge of 1,200 cusecs. In Vaigai dam, the level was 35.76 ft. (71 ft.), with an inflow of 1,120 cusecs and a discharge of 60 cusecs. Combined storage in Periyar credit was 4,477 mcft.

Rainfall recorded in the 24 hours ending at 6 a.m. on Sunday was (in mm): Periyar dam 49.8, Thekkadi 40.2, Gudalur 35, Shanmuganathi dam 25, Uthamapalayam 6.1, Veerapandi 15, Vaigai dam 1.6, Manjalar dam 5, Sothuparai dam 2 and Kodaikanal 2.6, PWD officials said.
