June 19, 2019 06:56 pm | Updated 06:56 pm IST - NAGERCOIL

Condemning erratic drinking water supply in all 52 wards in Nagercoil, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam staged a road roko at Vadaseri junction here on Wednesday.

The protester was led by Nagercoil MLA N. Suresh Rajan. Mr. Suresh Rajan said, alerted by the DMK’s announcement about the protest, the civic body had had set right pumps at Mukkadal dam to augment drinking water supply. “But this is not enough. Our protest will intensify if regular drinking water is not restored. The DMK will take the protest to every part of Kanniyakumari district as water crisis has not been tackled in a proper manner everywhere,” Mr. Suresh Rajan said.

He also said the bad condition of roads and stray dog menace should also be addressed by the Corporation. The police arrested 260 protesters, including former MP Helen Davidson and former MLA Bernard, who were released later.
